Colloidal Silver for Children and Pets – Dosage

Many people ask about the proper dosage of Colloidal Silver for children and pets. A good rule of thumb to follow is 1/4 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight. This is considered a Therapeutic Dose and can be repeated several times per day or more as needed.

Colloidal silver also works well topically on children and animals. Try using it on diaper rash, hot spots or any other skin conditions that need relief. Alternatively for topical needs, Mountain Well-Being’s Soothing Silver Gel is one of the safest and most effective skin first aids gels in existence.

Has colloidal silver benefited your child or pet? If so, please share how.

  1. My dog had terrible hot spots in the groin area. He was miserable and constantly chewed himself so it spread between his legs, crept up his buttocks and on and around the tail. I mixed equal parts colloidal silver and Echinacea-goldenseal in liquid form into an aloe gel base and applied it a couple of times a day to the sore areas. Within 2 to 3 days, the skin became pink and smooth again. I repeated this treatment whenever it flared up. I call it the “Big guns of healing.”

  2. What kind of dose do you give if your dog seems he is on his death bed. We can longer afford to continue to take him to the vet. I just emailed the vet and am awaiting a response to see if they can tell me something with the way he is recovering from his surgery.

He had surgery on 9th and they found a mass that had wrapped around his kidney etc. He was prescribed medication for UTI after surgery and other antiobiotic like Clavamox and Baytril. He seemed to be doing better as the days progressed and now his antibiotic ended and he just taking pain pills. The appetite stimulant was helping and now it does nothing the past couple of days.

I started to give collodial sivler last night (several tablespoons at least). It was your brand. We are buying more bottles today of the same brand. He won’t get up to let me take him for a walk to pee. But his head does seem at least a bit perkier today. How much collodial silver is too much? We don’t really have any options left but to try out best to treat him with remedies at home. We have already spent $3,000 and are tapped out. He is an older beagle mix.

    1. Hi Bridget,
To answer your question about using colloidal silver with dogs, I’ve successfully used colloidal silver on my dogs on many occasions for many different reasons. I don’t think you can give a dog too much, and when my dog was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor, I began giving him a liberal amount of colloidal silver twice a day with his food. It helped him tremendously! A therapeutic dose for an animal (or child) is considered to be ¼ teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight. However, I was giving my dog much more than this amount. I also gave him multiple doses per day. I hope this helps you!

      1. Hi Jonathan, I was wondering if my dog is currently on Enrofloxacin antibiotic for a UTI and I want to supplement with Colloidal Silver, would you still advise 1/4 teaspoon per 10 lbs bodyweight?

        Thank you so much.

        Julia

        1. Hi Julia,
Yes, I would still recommend that dosage even though your dog is taking conventional antibiotics. There has been a study that showed taking colloidal silver along with a conventional antibiotic was much more effective than just taking the antibiotic by itself. And for children and pets, the therapeutic dosage is considered to be 1/4 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight. Hope this helps you.

  3. What is the difference in dosage for different ppm?

The current bottle I have says 15 ppm. So how much should I give?

My partner just called from the health food store and said he purchased your brand – one bottle for 250 ppm and one for 500 ppm

    1. Hi Bridget,
To answer your question about ppm (parts per million), any colloidal silver in the hundreds of ppm range (i.e.: 250ppm – 5000ppm) is almost always going to be what’s known as a mild silver protein (MSP) and this type of silver supplement is inferior to electrically generated colloidal silver. The way you can test for MSP is to shake the bottle, and if foam persists, then you know there is a protein added. The particles of silver in MSP are so large that they would sink without the flotation assistance from the protein. But this protein coats the surface of the silver particles, keeping them from coming into contact with what they’re supposed to be targeting. So, you’re much better off with a colloidal silver that’s produced using electrolysis and in the 10-20ppm range.
      Take care,
      Jonathan

  4. Wow, you just answered my question with the ppm. So dosage would be 1/4 tsp per 10 pounds? Can I give this daily as a supplement or immune system booster? Or would that not be good since it is considered an antibiotic. My dogs do eat raw food, so probiotic is always there. Thanks! mari

    1. Hi Mari,
Yes, 1/4 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight is considered to be a therapeutic dose for a small child or pet. You can choose to use colloidal only when needed, or take some each day as a preventative. It’s a personal preference. I use it daily as a preventative during the cold and flu season, when everyone around seems to be sick, but the rest of the year I take it only as needed. It’s always best to separate colloidal silver from probiotics as much as possible, because the silver could cancel out some of the benefits of probiotics if taken at the same time. Colloidal silver is always absorbed better straight without mixing with food or beverage.

  5. Hi Jonathon,

Our dog has had recurrent UTI problems. I am concerned about the amount of antibiotics she has taken and would like to treat this soley with colloidal silver. Will that work and at what dosage?

    1. Hello Claire,

If my dog had a UTI, I would definitely give him colloidal silver. We cannot legally recommend dosages, but I can tell you my dog weighs 75 pounds and I personally would likely start giving him a tablespoon 2-3 times per day. If he wasn’t improving after a couple days, I’d gradually increase the dosage.

      Good luck,
      Jonathan

  6. Thanks for making this info available. I’m wondering about dosing for my husband who has recently acquired lichen planus. We are treating with silver colloidal orally and topically as well as using a pemf machine 2 Times/day. I make 10 ppm silver colloidal at home. He is current taking between 2 and 3 oz a day. We have seen the disease stop progressing but not sure how how to give this amount and when to start reducing? Thanks.

    1. Hello Deb,

As a general rule, you want to continue using colloidal silver until after symptoms subside. When using it topically, the most important thing to remember is to keep the colloidal silver moist against the skin. You do this by moistening a bandage with a colloidal silver and securing it to the skin. When homemade colloidal silver dries, it looses the majority of its effectiveness, so reapply as often as necessary and keep the moist silver against the skin day and night. You might want to let it air out and dry periodically, but for the most part keep it covered with moist silver.

  7. My two month old has croup and i REALLY do not want to give him antibiotics so young. I bought a 10ppm horizontal spray but i’m not getting a clear answer on dosage. Some said any infant over 1 month of age needs 2ML twice a day and I also read that if you simply spray it in the air around them that’ll work, but that seems like it wouldn’t be as effective and wasteful to me. Also, can I spray it directly into his mouth since he’s not old enough to swish it around or hold it under his tongue ?

    1. Hello Micah,

I would recommend spraying colloidal silver into his mouth frequently. With colloidal silver, it’s best to use smaller more frequent doses rather than larger infrequent ones. The amount considered to be a “therapeutic dosage” for a small child is 1/4 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight, per dose. You might want to use a measuring spoon once to see how many spays it takes to get the appropriate amount. You’ll want to repeat this several times per day. Always follow your intuition!

I would also recommend looking into using a nebulizer so that the colloidal silver can be inhaled into his lungs. This is the best route to administer colloidal silver for lung issues. You can view the nebulizer we carry at this page: https://mountainwellbeing.com/shop/ultrasonic-nebulizer/ Please let us know if you have any more questions.

      1. Hi! I see I can use CS in a nebulizer, my daughter is 6 years old and weighs around 40lbs. So that means I can nebulize 1 teaspoon of CS every time she needs to? How many times a day is it recommended? I guess it is not necessary to dilute, right?

        1. Hi Daniela,

You can definitely nebulize colloidal silver. I suggest following your intuition for determining the correct amount, as we are prohibited from giving specific dosing information. Personally, I nebulize a teaspoon at a time, but a 6 year old might require less. Sometimes I nebulize three times per day or more if needed. I always take CS internally in addition to using it in my nebulizer. It is not necessary to dilute the CS. Hope this helps.

          1. Hello! My 2 year old is having a LOT of coughing, to the point he is vomiting from it. We want to use colloidal silver in the nebulizer. However we currently have the 500 ppm. Is this ok to use? Please advise!

          2. Hi Brittany,

The industry standard for colloidal silver is 10ppm. If the ppm gets too high, the particle size tends to increase which reduces efficacy and safety. I think 500ppm is much too high and I would bet that it’s a mild silver protein rather than electrically generated colloidal silver. You can test for protein by shaking the bottle. If foam persists inside the bottle after shaking, then there is a protein present.

Nebulizing the 500ppm colloidal silver might be better than nothing, but it’s impossible for me to say whether it’s ok to use without first testing the product myself. But I personally would prefer to use colloidal silver in the normal range of 5-30ppm, especially if I was nebulizing it into my lungs. As always, I encourage you to follow your intuition. I can tell you that Mountain Well-Being colloidal silver is very safe and effective to use in a nebulizer, as I have been doing that for over a decade with nothing but great results.

            Jonathan

    1. Hi Carol,

Colloidal silver is a germ-killer and a skin-healer. It’s not normally used to increase appetite, although I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that it did.

  8. Hi, if I wanted to try this for my 7 year old son who has eczema on the back of his knees, his legs, and his arms what should I try? The lotion or the soothing gel? Is it 100% safe to put on his body and does it help eczema and will it keep it away? Thank you so much

    1. Hi Emma,

Both the silver lotion and silver gel are 100% safe to use topically. We are not allowed to make any claims whatsoever regarding eczema or any other condition. If it was me, I would probably lean more towards the gel, however the lotion would be good too. I also encourage you to read the book, The Iodine Crisis by Lynne Farrow, as it discusses eczema and the effects iodine supplementation can have on it. You can find it here: https://mountainwellbeing.com/shop/iodine-book-the-iodine-crisis-by-lynne-farrow/

  9. Hi Johnathan

My baby is 15 months and permanently ill.
Flu and coughing. Never slept through. I’m using colloidal silver. I want to find out if I can give it to him as well?

    Thank you so much
    Ankia Rentzke

    1. Hi Ankia,

The therapeutic dosage of colloidal silver for children is 1/4 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight. I recommend not going over this amount in a single dose, but you will want to repeat this dosage several times throughout the day. As always, go with your intuition.

Be careful of limiting beliefs, such as “permanently ill.” I don’t know the details of your son’s situation, but I firmly believe that every dis-ease can be overcome.

      Be well,
      Jonathan

  10. Hello! My one year old has fever with no other symptoms. I gave him elderberry syrup and I’ve been doing vitamin shock therapy and taking additional vitamin C and zinc in hopes it’ll transfer to him via nursing. I have never used colloidal silver before. I did order a nebulizer but not sure on how to use it with colloidal silver or dosage. Can it be taken orally or only via a nebulizer. Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    1. Hello Brandi,

You can view a video where I show how to use an ultrasonic nebulizer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi8XX0PT9vQ
Colloidal silver can be taken orally in addition to used in a nebulizer. Please browse our blog for more information on how to use colloidal silver. Let us know if you have additional questions.

    1. Hello Jerry,

The therapeutic dose for a child is 1/4 teaspoon of colloidal silver per 10 pounds of bodyweight. So you can use that as a guideline for treating your chickens, however that assumes you’d be giving it to your chickens by mouth. While that is possible (using a dosing syringe without needle), it’s more likely you’ll want to just put some CS in their water. In that case, finding the correct dose is more challenging. It’s better to error on the side of giving too much than not enough, especially if they are suffering with respiratory issues. Go with your intuition and monitor the improvements in your chickens. I know people who do this and it has worked for them. Good luck!

      Jonathan

  11. I have a 13 year old cat that has a cold or respiratory infection, is it safe to give her colloidal silver and should it help with her respiratory problems?

    Jane

    1. Hello Jane,

Yes, you can certainly give colloidal silver to your cat. A therapeutic dose would be 1/4 teaspoon per 10 pounds of bodyweight. You may need to give frequent, repeated doses for the best results.

Unfortunately, we are prohibited from making any claims that colloidal silver will help any specific illness.

      Be well,
      Jonathan
