Colloidal silver is an excellent mineral supplement to take when you have a cold or flu. But did you know that having a cold or flu means that your body is almost certainly too acidic? Your body usually becomes acidic before an illness can set in, and the flip side is that you’re not likely to get sick if your body pH is slightly alkaline. So if you are sick, you can be pretty sure that your body pH is acidic.
On the 0-14 pH scale, 7 is neutral. Anything below 7 is acidic and anything above 7 is alkaline. An ideal body pH is approximately 7.35, which is slightly more alkaline (and therefore less acidic) than neutral. Certain foods and beverages promote a more alkaline body pH, such as lemon water and green superfoods like algae and Moringa. Others make the body more acidic, such as soft drinks, coffee and meat. Stress can also create acidity in the body, which is one of the reasons we must alleviate it as much as we can. Other factors that cause the body to become acidic are alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, caffeine, and chocolate. Do an internet search for an acid/alkaline food chart. I keep one attached to my refrigerator for referencing.
There’s a great little trick you can use to quickly raise your body pH when you begin to feel like you’re coming down with a cold or flu. Doing this can often halt and then reverse the progression of an illness. It’s relatively safe, easy, and very inexpensive. It involves completely dissolving a small amount of baking soda in a glass of water, and then consuming. Since drinking baking soda can neutralize stomach acid needed for digestion, it’s important to drink baking soda at separate times from eating food. I do my best to make sure I take it either one hour before or two hours after a meal. Dr. Mercola, one of my favorite MDs, has an article about this at his website.
In 1925, the Arm & Hammer Company, which is the brand of baking soda I recommend, wrote their suggested dosages for using their product for colds and flus:
- Day 1 — Take six doses of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in glass of cool water, at about two-hour intervals
- Day 2 — Take four doses of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in glass of cool water, at the same intervals
- Day 3 — Take two doses of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in glass of cool water morning and evening, and thereafter ½ teaspoon in glass of cool water each morning until cold symptoms are gone
